Hail weary traveler, stay and rest by the fire.

If you're a Lord of the Rings fan, you've read the book, seen the movie (20 times) and now you want to learn (one of) the languages, you've come to the right place. This site will hopefully inspire you to learn Quenya, or as most people know it, 'Elvish'.
Not little fellas in green caps, with pots of gold, no, these Elves are the mythical creatures from J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings', these creature have a rich history.
This site is dedicated to Quenya,
The Lord of the Rings being the final of the Elves legends of Middle-Earth, although in this story, Elves play only a small part.

Quenya, the name of this site, is one of the languages of the Elves of Tolkien's Middle-Earth, Tolkien wrote so much about this language, that it is possible to actually learn and speak this language, which is what this site is all about!
If you want to get started learning, go to Lessons, (links coming soon) it has links to some Quenya lessons (there are several).
If you're new to learning Quenya you might want to join one of the Groups, this is a great way to learn, you have people to ask, if you need any help, or want to disscuse something you've just learnt, or keep reading to find out more…

Quenya isn't so good for translating some modern phrases, for the simple reason that it doesn't have any 'modern' words such as 'car', 'phone', 'computer' etc. well you get the idea.
But Quenya is a lot more uses than you'd think, it can be used to translate anything from simple kid's books to parts of the Bible.

Attolma i menelessie, nai airitainiéva esselya,
Our Father who is in heaven, be it that will be hallowed thy name,

Nai ardalya tuluva,
Be it that thy kingdom will come,

Nai írelya tyarniéva mardesse ve menelesse...
Be it that thy desire will be done on earth as in heaven...

Quenya is a beautiful language, it's really fun to speak once you have learnt a few words.
So just how many Quenya speakers are there?
Well one group that studies Tolkien languages, has over 1300 members!
And most of them are learning Quenya and/or Sindarin (see Other Tolkien Languages, link coming soon) though there are many more than this scattered around the globe.
Unfortunately, this means Quenya Speakers don't get to talk together.
The best thing to do is to get all your friends (preferably LotR fanatics) and get them to start learning with you. , )
Anyway, take a look around this site and if you do start learning Quenya, please e-mail me.
