Waltham is a good example of people supporting each other to build a caring
community.I have been privileged to be
a community worker at the cottage for 14 years and have witnessed amazing
outcomes for people as they form friendships and move forward with their goals. My role involves advocacy and supporting people in practical ways to
make a positive difference in the direction they choose. My role as a Community Health Worker for
Partnership Health Canterbury means I can support people to have better access
to healthcare.As the co-ordinator of
the cottage it is my job to ensure the cottage is well resourced, supported,
networked and funded so our community has it own place where development and
personal growth happens.
Isabella Kilkelly:
Well-being Coach/ /Facilitator
I relish my work because it involves working with
people who want to try and make positive changes for themselves that are either
big or small. As their coach I am able
to hold a safe and creative space for individuals to process and make better
sense of their issues and how these might impact daily on their
lives. With each revelation individuals self -determine what they are willing
to work through and decide which strategies are appropriate to trial and
practise that most strengthens facilitation of change.I also help with CV / Work Profiles and
enjoy the role of coordinating the nutritional, exercise and well-being
programmes.

The Cottage recently
became the recipients of the Small Change donation. We really like the concept of this group and
it does go along way to making a difference
Small Change for a better future Every
month, a group of people of different ages and backgrounds gather in the
Addington Coffee Co-op to make a difference to the people of
Christchurch. The group calls itself Small
Change: members are
asked to only bring $10 each month and, over the course of an hour of (fair
trade) coffee and conversation, the group votes on what local cause, charity,
project, person, or need to use the group’s pooled money on. As an example of
giving, previous months have seen families receive money for food and power
bills, sponsorship
to a local children’s camp. Small Change usually meets on the last Saturday of
every month at the Addington Coffee Co-op,
297 Lincoln Road. If you are interested
in attending Small Change or starting your own group in an area near you,
contact Iain at idm42@uclive.ac.nz
