You know the old saying "If you can't beat them - join them"

Well I did exactly that!

Last year, "the year of the older person" somehow seemed an appropriate time to start doing the things I've been wanting to do for such a long time. Other commitments always took top priority, that is: raising three children, running a home, working etc etc. My lucky husband always got out in his kayak and I got left out in the cold (so to speak).

One day by chance, I noticed a second-hand kayak for sale, and I thought... Why not! Since then it's been all go.

Being a novice, the Lyttelton Harbour and surrounding bays have been my playground, but recently I had the enoumous pleasure of kayaking in the Marlborough Sounds. Click on thumbnails for larger images.

My sights are now set on the Able Tasman National Park. Having been there on regular occasions walking the track I've always looked longingly at the very popular mode of transport around there. That's my next venture!

My life is still very busy. My eldest daughter has just presented me with a beautiful grandson. I'm still working, and just recently bought a computer and am learning how to use it. It has opened up a whole new world to me. I've just completed a course on using the internet at Waltham Community Cottage under the expert guidance of Julianne. This enables me to keep in touch with family and friends overseas.

There are still many things on my wishlist that I want to do: paragliding, get proficient with the computer, learn to draw. I can cross hot-air ballooning off my list - done that. My love of the outdoors has given me a thirst for new horizons and my wishlist is getting longer by the day. Just because I'm knocking on the doors of being 60 in a few years, it won't stop me from fulfilling my dreams.

If you want to do it -just do it.

I AM!!
